While in Russia his photographs were published in the Russian magazine Vokrug Sveta (Around the World) ? the Russian equivalent of National Geographic. In 1977 Nicholas was awarded a Gold Medal from the Russian Geographical Society for his photographic coverage of an expedition to the North Pole in 1976.
Nicholas perceives photography as the basis of cinematography and he never stopped taking pictures wherever he had been, on whatever assignment he was given. Constantly travelling around Australia and the World, Nicholas filmed in countries such as China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Israel, Russia and USA. In Australia, working in film and video, Nicholas received numerous awards for his cinematography from the Australian Cinematographers Society.
Photography in Nicholas's view has a great importance in modern society. It is not only a way for visual communication but can reach depths of truth.
